It's been a busy 6 months since I last posted. Our baby was born and we moved to Oregon.
The baby being born had the effect on my weight that I had feared, but has also been the greatest thing that ever happened to me, so I guess putting on almost 30 lbs isn't the end of the world. Now I just have to get it back off again.
The last month of my wife's pregnancy kept me around the house and on-call, then the arrival of Owen kept me fairly sedentary for the last few months. I could have gotten back in gear a couple months ago, but by then we were traveling back and forth to Oregon, then packing up our house and moving. Yes, these are all excuses and obviously they could have been overcome, but they weren't.
I've been feeling like getting back into a good diet/exercise rythm, but with the house needing work, I spent most of my free time painting and unpacking. Today I decided to just start with a daily run at noon (it's been snowing for several days and has now switched to raining, so noon gives me a good chance of decent temperature).
I ran 1.06 miles today in the rain. I felt great but also killed me. It sucks how quickly you lose your cardio fitness. I'm going to eat a reasonable diet and run every day and see what happens on the scale. If it doesn't start moving in the right direction, I'll have to step it up a notch.
